How to Calculate Forex Lot Size

Lot sizing in forex determines the volume of your trade. Trading the wrong lot size can lead to outsized losses, even with a tight stop loss. This calculator helps you trade the correct volume every time.

The Formula

Lots = (Account Size × Risk %) ÷ (Pips at Risk × Pip Value)

Step-by-Step Example

  1. Your account is $10,000
  2. You want to risk 2% ($200)
  3. EUR/USD entry at 1.1000, stop at 1.0950
  4. That is 50 pips of risk
  5. Pip value (standard lot) = $10
  6. Lots = $200 ÷ (50 × $10) = 0.40 lots
